OK, I attempted to update my remote trigger situation.
I laid hands on a BR-E1, thinking, hey, Canon trigger, Canon camera, no problem, right?
Well, problem.
The BR-E1 will only do a remote trigger with a timer. I don't need a self-timer, I need a trigger to trip the shutter.
As in, I need it all: right up to the H+ setting, at 15 fps of the R7.
So, what are my options while I box up the BR-E1 for return? Canon, some other brand, I don't care as long as it works.
Oh, and someone will tell me to use my smartphone. Don't. I can't, the situation doesn't work with a phone. It's complicated, but the trigger has to unobtrusive enough that I can hide it in my hand. So a smartphone won't work.
The Canon BR-E1 that I had started eating batteries rapidly. I ended up buying one from JJC through Amazon and have been using it off and on for several years now. It's better made and cheaper too. Unfortunately, it no longer seems to be available through Amazon (I just looked). It was identical to the BR-E1 in that it controlled both the still and video functions. It's appearance was identical too.
I know nothing about the R7 but on the R5 the camera has to be set to a certain drive mode or it will either not work at all or be on a 10 second delay.
I’ve been happy with my Vello Shutterbosses and Freewave Fusion units on a number of Canon DSLRs and now R5’s. Never did like either the BR-E1 or Canon’s iOS app.

No change, only delay worked.
Maybe mine is defective.
I re-read the manual. The stills options are 10 second or 2 second delay. Period.
This is not true. I use the that remote all the time. It works immediately and with continuous shooting or single shot. Maybe a setting you have or something. I use mine with the R5 II and R1 without issue.
The switch on the side needs to be all the way up towards the top of the remote. The middle switch location is for a timer only the bottom switch location is for video which also works immediately for video.
I used mine a lot this year while waiting for birds to stick their head out of the nest, so I needed immediate response and this remote worked flawlessly.

Maybe you don’t have the Canon Original, because the Original has no 10 second option, only immediate or 2 seconds.
Canon BR-E1 works very well, with the R7 also.
