Some from May of this year. It's a versatile lens with a nice feel to its zoom mechanism.
I'm trying out a new image host (and will be editing this post until I get it right )

178mm f/8

39mm f/3,5

25mm f/9 cropped

26mm f/2,8

Edit. well, it took some digital help in order to get the images into the post. I have the weekend to figure out whether I wish to keep flickr. Pixelunion is cheaper but there is one extra hoop when creating a post here (and of course there are no public galleries, albums/images need to be deliberately shared). Though there seems to be a way to get the originals for the preview, which vanquishes the slight softness I've sometimes complained about when using Flickr shares. This isn't necessarily an advertised feature but it's not particularly hacky either; chatGPT dug into the source of Immich.

FWIW the 25-200 will do the same in terms of battery life, it's one of those that drains the camera when off too.

Have the 25-200 for a week now.
No battery drain when camera off.

Which camera? I've heard reports of certain 3rd party lenses having the battery drain issues such as the Sony a7RV, possibly the Sony a7IV? Over the years learned different models that are 'immune' to some issues have other quirks beyond performance/battery capacity. This includes older models.

What is the verdict on this lens vs the 28-200? Is it worth the upgrade or is it similar performance but a little wider? I have a pretty consistently sharp (wide to tele) copy of the 28-200, but I always wish it was just a tad wider.

Interesting how it happened with mine then, not sure why that would be.

I never had the 28-200 but I recall reviews showing improvements with the corners. Build quality, AF speed, and 25mm wide end are the other improvements that come to mind. It is about a 1/3 stop slower. Probably would cost you $400-500 to “upgrade” so whether that’s worth it will be a personal decision.

I felt like the newer lens seemed like the one to get when I was buying, but it’s a little different if you already have the 28-200. I took the 25-200 as my only lens on that Zion/Bryce trip I posted above and I probably would have been fine with either. I ended up stitching a few shots to go much wider anyways.

I'm still on the fence. I enjoyed the Sony 24-105mm f/4 and really enjoyed the Tamron 28-200mm, but miss that sweet 24mm. The increased macro of the Tamron 25-200mm G2 is a huge selling point, especially with the latest firmware upgrade. This year I have been using the Tamron 50-300mm which I know is a bit different but have been able to crop into @450mm with sharp 18MP photos which makes this harder. @50mm is so much better than @70mm. But having 25mm would be fantastic. The macro on the 50-300mm is incredible through out the range. Without a phone or RX100 it would be a lot easier to say I need the 25-200mm. But in low light full frame all the way. Another fun combo is having a high resolution body + Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 which I know is aps-c but does do full frame at 12.2mm which is unusual. Stop down a little to remove vignette. Even figured out the precise marking to get that 0.2mm marking perfectly worked out. I've even had luck at @12.2mm f/2.8.

Looking at metrics such as FastStone Image viewer give great insights on what focal lengths we prefer.
