I've read a lot of quality lens firmware updates, this one is my favorite. The nice photos in this thread and increased macro are compelling to get this lens.

I know it's unconventional, but I really want to try using this lens for my next media day/studio shoot. I'm always at 5.6 - 8 in those situations anyway and the range seems perfect.

Anyone have any issues with autofocus accuracy? I've been spoiled with native Sony AF lately.

I have this lens on my z6iii with the megadap pro+ adapter and really appreciative after updating with the latest firmware to v3 with the increased macro focus. No issues with autofocus accuracy so far.

I bet the IQ is not great in the extended macro range, especially at 70mm.
If it were great, Tamron would have released the lens with the extended macro range from the start. Most probably they are just reacting to reviewers criticizing the useless macro feature at 25mm and to the Sigma 20-200 having a much more useful macro range.
User reports about the IQ (or even comparisons with the Sigma) would be much appreciated!
Thinking about upgrading to this lens from my 28-200, because it slowly sucks the battery of my A7RV empty when I turn the camera off.

@hasenbein@ What makes you say IQ @70mm is probably not good? Tamron's 70-180mm f/2.8 G2 improved auto focus macro capabilities (compares to G1) which may be a software improvement. I agree Sigma's 20-200mm until recently has had the upper hand for macro. Dustin Abbott also mentions Tamron's "less practical" macro while he still prefers the Tamron over the Sigma 20-200mm. Until today, I was leaning towards Sigma for that sweet 20mm. The bokeh ability of the Tamron 28-200mm has made me happy many times, but also love macro. The playing field has shifted to do you want 20mm or do you want more aperature? Sharpness seems very similar. Tamron is ever so slightly heavier.

FWIW the 25-200 will do the same in terms of battery life, it's one of those that drains the camera when off too.

It happens even with my 20-70 and the 70-200GII, so I think it's more of a body problem than a lens issue personally.

If you have a lens or adapter that drains the battery when off, you can always, release the battery, drop it about an inch, push it back up and close the battery draw. Only worth it if you are not using camera for a decent time.

techart adapter for LM helped me find this out.

The other thing I noticed that helps is after powering off the camera, just slightly unseat the lens from the body enough to decouple the contacts, then reattach it. That ‘usually’ keeps the battery drain issue from happening as well.

No battery drain issues with this lens and A7CR. That would be quite annoying on a backpacking trip.
