Everything I've read about the Sony 16 f1.8 G indicates it is an excellent lens. The small size means there is distortion, but it is corrected via a profile. I imagine being a prime, it is going to outperform the Tamron and the 16-35 f4 Sony as well.
As a prime I imagine that it is a good one but for your travel needs I was thinking more along the line of the Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G.

Paired with the 20-70 though? A wide angle zoom starting at 16 seems unnecessary to cover only 4mm. A 12-24 would be a different story.

My most used lens is the 28-200. I would expect the 20-70 to be a "better" walk-around in European old cities, etc. Many feel 28mm isn't wide enough, a good number of them feel 24mm also isn't wide enough, nor 20mm, and some, 16mm still not wide enough. The 12-24 or 14-24s might fit in there for some. But they are also rather bigger, heavier and rather expensive.
But, maybe a 12mm or 14mm prime might also "fit" and with an a7Riv, a7rv or A7CR especially maybe there's crop room to assist in getting back to the 20-70? I don't know the primes but maybe an f2.8 might be of a size and price to make a better 3rd lens in some cases?

I guess it depends on whether you see a 16-35mm as merely adding 16-19mm to what you have in the 20-70mm, or whether you see a 16-35mm as adding the ability to go to 16mm and still be able to get to 35mm without needing to swap lenses. I would see it more in the latter way, but you may see it differently. If you were questioning whether carrying a lens to get to 16mm when you could already get to 20mm it might be different, but given your other posts about intending to carry a 16mm prime, I assume you do value being able to get to 16mm rather than 20mm.

For travel I oftentimes will go back and look at focal lengths used on similar trips, and then prep accordingly with what to take. My experience for trips like what you're describing is I find myself on the wide end most of the time in varied lighting, while also wanting to limit gear, so I'd take my 16-25 2.8 as my primary lens, with the 28-60 along for the ride just in case. All with the A7cR.
But that's just me- if you find yourself going out in the 35-70mm range often, then I think you made the right choice on the 20-70. Everyone has different tendencies/goals on trips.
