A few of my favorites from a session I did at the start of Summer. I have heard many times that I shouldn't do close up portraits using a wide open aperture setting like this. For many years I would only do close-up portraits between f/4 and f/8, and I like those portraits, but after 18 years of doing portrait photography I find myself returning to that extreme shallow depth of field look and really loving it, despite the many experts who deem it to be an "amateur" move.
Canon 5D MKIII, Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II lens set to f/1.2, and lit using natural light and a reflector.
These are lovely portraits, and I greatly appreciate the shallow depth of field. I cannot comprehend anyone’s objection to the use of this invaluable, and quite beautiful, technique in portraiture.
Daniel these are fantastic! I also love shallow dof for portraits..what few I do. The shallow dof allows the viewer to see only the subject and not be distracted by what else is in the frame.
Outstanding brother!

Thank you Derek! I agree, but everyone has their preferences. I've just learned to stick by mine despite what others think
