p.1 #1 · A portrait session with Earl, the Great Egret
A couple of weeks ago I posted the story of the friendship of Mike, the supervisor at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY and Earl. The other day I saw Earl standing in one of his faverate spots, a railing on the bridge in the middle of the park. There were multiple birds on the railings and as I approached Earl, I zig zagged to avoid getting too close to any of them. After doing this I slowly approached Earl while talking to him and he started to preen.
Earl is believed to be 25 years old, one of the oldest free roaming great egrets. He looks great for his years and is still quite active.
I took these photos at MFD and as you can see I was filling the frame. This required quick composition and moving back and forth to achieve focus.
