I was very fortunate to score a large amount of Efke and Macophot IR820 film in 4x5 ane 8x10 format. What a beautiful film. The images I get from this film is breathtaking. I am happy to have it but also saddened as it will never be made again. When I shoot the last sheet I have, it will be the end. That is humbling. Film is not dead, but IR film is. The hawks on the bay have gone insane selling this film for idiotic prices. I hae 200 sheets left. Every one of them I treat with the upmost of respect and only shoot what I think will be epic. hopefully this wil fulfill me for my remaining years. Has anyone else on here shot his? Do you miss it? Here is one I shot today. It shows how beautiful this film truly is.

Chris,
Though I love IR, and in particular, I like natural foliage mixed with man-made structures (which this photo has) - I never have shot IR using film. I have two IR digital cameras (665nm). Can you tell us about the film speed, and exposures? Doesn't Rollei still make IR film?

From what I could gather online, you shoot it at iso 1. I found that no matter how long it has been expired for, I shoot it at f16 for 4 seconds with a 720nm filter. I am trying to find as much of this in sheet format that I can and throw it in the freezer. I wish I knew about this stuff before they stopped making it.

Gorgeous, Chris. Well done!

I was never lucky enough to find IR sheets when I had my Toyo, and my full-spectrum mono-converted a7rII does all my IR stuff now (I can put on the Actus and make 7x5cm panos, but it's not the same).

I ran into the long exposure thing when I first started shooting IR, but by screwing filters (720nm) on the front of the lens. If there was any wind leaves became ghostly, and water had a wonderful smear to it. Sometimes it adds to the image, and other times I found it distracting - so that is why I got converted cameras. If I see any 4x5 sheet IR film I will PM you.

Yes, Rollei still makes IR film labeled as Rollei Infrared 400. I used it a few times in recent years with great success in 35 mm format. It seems to exist also in 4x5" sheets for sale. There were years were it was difficult to get this film. I prefer this Rollei film over the alternative which is Ilford SFX 200 film. The SFX is not a dedicated IR film but has extended range in infrared up to 740 nm for a B&W film. The Rollei film seems to be more sensitive in the IR range than the Ilford film.

A few examples I took with the Rollei Infrared 400 film:

I was just packing a bag for today, and the IR bug hit. Can't share whatever IR I get, but my grayscale IR album is linked if anyone wants a look see.(there is a smaller color album as well)
