Yesterday was a crazy day on the Long Island Coast. The wind was already very strong coming out of the east as it raced to the low named Hurricane Erin. As the tide came in it flooded the nesting area on Nickerson Beach right to the dunes so the water line was about 50 yards more inland than normal. I was on the other side of the bay at the Marine Nature Study Area and the water was starting to cover the trails as I departed. Most of the marsh was under water and with high tide still two hours away making it clear that the park would be under water. Hopefully the homes right outside of the park don't get flooded yet it would hardly be the first time.
This sequence was taken as the water in the ponds was starting to get too deep for the wading birds. The yellow legs in this set blasted off with a group of starlings. I don't know what startled them yet I was waiting for the yellowlegs to fly hoping I could get a sharp image at a very long distance. The photos are taken with my 500mm + 1.4x on my Fuji X-H2s (APS-C Body). I used about 1/2 the frame for the first image. The second is cropped form about 1/3 the frame.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
