p.1 #1 · A set from Venice, Italy

Another set of photographs that I assembled for another purpose... and figured I might as well share here, too, while I'm at it. These come from Venice, Italy. They come from the same visit to this marvelous place — two that I worked up at the time and the others more recently rediscovered in my raw file archive.

With the exception of the first one, the others were all photographed very early in the morning or in the evening, when the weather was more pleasant and the criowds smaller.

Enjoy!

Great compositions Dan! Italy is my "2nd home". Haven't been back in about 7 years so thanks for the visit!

Thanks. It has been three years since we were there. We had put it off for years, being aware of just how popular and overdone it is, but it was well worth it. We found a place to stay in a quiet corner (it appears in the dark night photo of the canal) and really enjoyed it. I’d like to go back in January or February when I hear there can be fog.

We love Italy in general, and we’ve been to quite a few places there, some more than once: Florence, the Chianti region, Siena, Milano, Bologna, Orvieto, Arezzo, and a few I’m probably forgetting… ;-)

Of course I am partial being the child of an Italian mother. But I have been all over Italy and each area has something very special to offer. Especially for photographers. November until the end of March you are likely to have a foggy day. I love the soft quiet that envelops and obscures the city. Nebbia(Italian for fog) envelops the gondolas and they appear as "Viking longboats" racing to an attack the unknown foe! Fog horns echo in the silence. Buildings take on a whole new appeal. Colors break the monotones for some great images!
Have fun!!

Beautiful shots, very well composed and processed.

Very hard to choose a favorite.
