Stumbled on this race and decided it would be fun to try to shoot. Didn't have the best gear for it and the atmospherics of sun on the asphalt made long lenses rough. I normally shoot birds, wildlife, landscape.

Thanks. All panning shots were at 1/30 or 1/50 with no stabilization or tripod. Could have been slightly better. The lens I was using for those did not have a panning stabilization mode.
I have some ideas for better shots if I do this again.
Very nice shots! Best part about a crit is you have a bunch of laps to try out different styles and settings. What would you say your keep rate was on the panning shots? I just did a race this weekend and kept about 10% of the panning shots that were taken between 1/50 and 1/80. With an EF 70-200mm f/2.8 it was hard to keep stabilized with that heavy of a lens, so I had better results with an 85mm f/1.8. Did you hand hold or have a monopod?
