Wow Scott. Big fires near Meeker. I worked a summer job with CP&W west of Meeker back in 1976 after my undergrad at CSU. I think the biggest fire there is now only partially contained. It has burned much of the Piceance Basin where I worked. I hope the Wildlife staff and structures at Little Hills survived it. The land will recover. Thanks for the photos. They're impressive. Steve

That looks intense! Is it under control now?
It's still not looking too good Ross, here's the latest:
Lee Fire (south of Meeker, Rio Blanco/Garfield counties)
• ~120,650 acres, 4% contained as of Tue night, Aug 12 (Garfield County evening update). Fire activity remains high today with new evacuation orders issued as the fire grows southward. Expect critical fire weather to continue.
Elk Fire (east of Meeker, Rio Blanco County)
• ~14,549 acres, 75% contained as of Tue night, Aug 12. Crews are patrolling and mopping up along containment lines; structure protection remains in place.

Thank you Steve, cool that you spent time in that area back in the 70's. That's a really special area. The land will recover but it's been destructive and will take a long time to heal. I feel for the wildlife and I'm hoping we get some moisture soon to tamp down the wildfires - the whole area is so dry and like a tinder box.
