This water power plant on the Potomac River about 25 miles from DC rests aglow in a beautiful sunset. All natural light providing the "orange/gold tones". The ridge line on the far horizon is West Virginia.

The power plant is on the Potomac River. The Dickerson plant was a coal-fired power plant and closed due to unfavorable economic conditions and increased costs associated with environmental compliance. Western Maryland is a very large coal producing part of the state but recent environmental standards have lessened its importance in the World's energy production. Specifically in the West with the exception of some Eastern block Euro Countries. India and China were(still are) Maryland's largest importers of coal.
One can still see mile long "coal carriers" on trains on their way to Baltimore for export.
Thanks!

That plant was a good navigation landmark when I was flying out of Davis from the west without gps. “Almost home.”
It is a "landmark" for all sorts of area identification Steve! The once billowing plumes of smoke have been silent for many years.
A shame in many ways! They would have really made the frame spectacular in the golden light!
Thanks!
