Ricoh has released a new app designed for GR series cameras. With it, you can shoot remotely, view and transfer images to your smartphone, and easily share them on social media.
The app will be available for download starting July 23, and works with both Android and iOS devices (note: some features may not be compatible with the GR II).
Compatible with Ricoh GR II, Ricoh GR III and GR IIIx.

To be honest, I actually really like their current "Image Sync" app. The camera connects to WiFi almost instantly and the app transfers images faster than any other brand I have used, including Leica and Sony. Hopefully the new app keeps that speed and simplicity or even improves on it.
One feature I'd really like to see is the option to save the camera settings externally through the app, kind of like a backup. But I doubt that will be included in the first release of the GR World App as I don't see in the app features.
The Image Sync app saved me recently when I could not quickly figure out otherwise how to transfer images out of the built in memory. I also was surprised how quickly and intuitively it worked. Looking forward to hearing the experience of others with this new GR World app.

I was waiting to hear how it went with you! I'm about to take the camera on a trip it did not want to risk testing out new firmware beforehand.
I downloaded the new app and had no trouble connecting with the GR III HDF. It worked really well for me.
One thing I noticed is that the preview images on the phone display in low resolution. I'll need to explore it more, but something that stood out is the new "remote" feature. Unlike the previous app, it doesn't offer a live preview or let you change settings. It's basically just a remote shutter button now.
The good news is the Image Sync app still works. Aside from the GR World app's cleaner look and simpler interface, I'm not sure it offers any real improvement over the previous app when it comes to connecting, viewing or importing images. Perhaps I'm missing an important feature the new app provides over Image Sync.
That’s what’s I couldn’t figure out. The new app just seems to be more or less the same functionality. Maybe new features like sims/recipes will come out in the future? Dunno. I assume it’s just some sort of standardization/compatibility issue for the upcoming GRIV that forced the GR world app.

I'm also confused but I never had any issues with image sync. I know some people had difficulties.
My only explanation is that the code base for image sync is quite old and perhaps hard to work with. Another possibility is that the app was made by someone else and that relationship didn't work out.
After some further testing i can see that the new app is already a significant improvement.
One annoyance with image sync is that it's modal. The downloading and selections isn't asynchronous. One you start downloading the interface is locked. With GR world the downloading is in the background and doesn't block the UI or making further selections.
