I've tested the Sony FDA-EV1MK on the RX1R II, and it works just like on the RX1R. I'm not sure about the RIII. The main benefits are higher magnification and the ability to tilt the viewfinder.

Given the lack of tilt screen, having the external tiltable EVF working is essential. Has anyone conclusively tested this on the new RX1R III?

The test literally would take only a few seconds.

Current RX1R II owner here. I recently bought a GM1 off the FM forum for something even more compact than the RX1R II. I am already finding the lack of a tilt screen as a big drawback in testing it out so far. I would definitely not enjoy the removal of it in the RX1R III, which is an even larger expense, and was one of the main reasons I decided to hold onto the R II. I'll likely end up with a Sony body + 40mm f/2.5 G or a Q3 43 in the future.

As a current RX1RII and Q3 owner, I consistently prefer to shoot with RX1RII given its smaller size, despite the lack of IBIS/OIS, unless the weather forces me to use the Q3 (eg. rainy). I think this is saying a lot.

Sony doesn't officially mention RX1RIII support on the viewfinder's page, so we'll need someone who owns both to confirm. It would have been nice if Sony considered this, but to be fair, the FDA-EVM1K was discontinued some time ago and is now getting harder to find.

I'm optimistically thinking that Sony may have just forgot about updating that page or just didn't bother since the FDA-EVM1K was already discontinued.

I am honestly surprised that even DPR team doesn't know this (because they also don't have the EVF to test), yet on a daily basis, new YT video popping up constantly featuring "pro" Youtubers taking this camera out donig their "reviews" and not a single one of them tests the FDA-EVM1K, or confirms buffer size or clearing speed.

I will not be shocked if the FM community could first answer these questions eventually.

The size with this sensor- Wow-

No other comments but this is exciting-

Picked it up and went to dinner. No pictures of any real value but I don't like threads without pictures so here ya go- Will be putting this through its paces and will also be doing a comparison between this and a Leica M11-P and 35 Summicron

If only one image among several shows the "RX1 look," it cannot possibly be "typical," otherwise all images would have it.

Same exact lens, same signature. The only difference is the color output on the R3, which might be what Matt is referring to.

I personally consider it absolutely impossible that someone could recognize a typical color output based on a completely unknown artificial light scene, especially without a comparison shot.
This also doesn't explain why only one shot shows the "look," even though it is "typical."

Honestly- it feels like I wish the Q3 did. It’s just so perfectly unnoticed when carrying and great in the hands. I say that wishing it had the Leica menu system but have found just about everything I need in the touchscreen to quickly adjust settings.

Overall very nice package- True competitor to the Leica Q and I am finding this lens really really nice.

I agree... It's really hard to tell the difference unless we're talking big changes in color output with no post-processing, like comparing Leica M10 and M11. With the RX1 series, though, you can get essentially the same images (same look and signature) from an RX1, RX1R II, or RX1R III, especially resized images for sharing online.

What does it matter to you what "I" see in an image. The clarity from that lens can be really nice and in that image I thought as much.

I have nothing against this lens, quite the opposite! I just find all these internet myths tiring. The typical Zeiss 3D-Pop, the typical Leica-Look, and now the typical RX1-Look.

Personally speaking, whatever camera I use I strive for the KLaban look.

For those currently using the RX1R III, could you confirm the maximum shutter speeds? I do not expect them to be different since it uses the same lens as the previous models, but it would be nice if Sony updated the official specs.

For the RX1R and RX1R II it's this: 1/2000s at f/2, 1/3200s at f/4, and 1/4000s at f/5.6 or smaller.

Tested and confirmed on RX1R III: 1/2000s from f/2 and all incremental stops until an increase to 1/3200s at f/4, then constant again until an increase to 1/4000s at f/5.6 and smaller

Thanks! I was hoping Sony would allow 1/3 increments for max SS and also 1/2500s for f/2.8.

Maybe its already mentioned by someone else in some other thread, but I tested the FDA-EVM1K (that works on my RX1 perfectly) on my friend's Rx1rMk3, and can confirm it does not work on the Mk3. Does not register anything, no messages on the screen either.

Thanks for the info. That confirms it only works with the RX1, RX1R, and RX1R II. The FDA-EVM1K DOES NOT work with the new RX1R III or with any A7, A7R, A9, or A1 bodies.

It would be a smart move if Sony made it compatible with the RX1R III, especially since that camera lacks a flip screen. It could serve as a great workaround for those who want more flexible shooting angles. Historically, the RX1 line has never received firmware updates, but maybe the RX1R III will finally change that and hopefully include this option in the future...
