Yikes, looks like prices outside of the US for the RX1R III appear to match the MSRP in US.
If the price increase in the US are indeed due to tariffs, I would have expected prices elsewhere to be lower, not on par. I guess this is a prime example of how tariffs create a new anchor price from which prices in other countries are calculated from. Instead of keeping the consequences of tariffs limited to US consumers, companies are dialing back the pain by distributing the tariff burden to other buyers around the world.
In the end, everyone else is helping subsidize US tariffs, and companies are taking advantage of the tariff to increase their prices beyond what is necessary. Yay corporations ><

So tariffs are driving lens hood and thumb grip prices? This is a false narrative. Sony mostly used off the shelf parts and well developed technologies. They just decided that they wanted to add a good bit of profit in a niche market. I’m not saying that tariffs don’t have an effect, but I’m saying that’s not the main portion of this price increase..

Exactly. Sony marketing decided that this is now a boutique camera, like the Q3/Q343.
The customer then gets rewarded with boutique pricing for a camera that is not really a boutique camera. You pay Leica prices for a camera that is not a Leica camera. Cam's review on the previous page shows that very well.

Yeah, definitely true that they are positioning the camera as a bit of a niche product and pricing it as such.
But based on the historical price differential of the same cam/lens across countries, you would think that tariffs would lead to a larger price differential. Which is why you are probably right that tariff isn't the major factor for the price increase. Maybe the MSRP is so much larger than the cost that any tariff effect is minuscule compared to the insane profit margin. Either way, it is clearly priced like a niche product, but at least the camera will be in stock for the people who really want it.

Confused about the Leica comparisons. Build quality wise, the RX1R M3 felt equal if not better to all the Qs and SL models I've owned prior. And the lens is much better than the 28 and even more beautiful than the 43. The accessories I imagine will feel just as good though I don't think they are necessary for most.
Sony has always has ultra premium products that are considered luxury to 99% of the world.
Price wise if you happen to be traveling should be close to $4,000 flat if you utilize tax free option in Japan with current exchange rate.

Yes, that's right if you shoot in an aspect ratio other than 3:2, the full RAW is available later in Lightroom. Useful for refining the framing or changing the aspect ratio later.
If you shoot Medium or Small Raw files, both full frame and APS-C crop files are the same pixel dimensions.
RAW Large, Lossless Comp 62.8MB 8640x5760 pixels, 49.76 megapixels
RAW Large, Lossless Comp with APS-C crop 30.9MB, 5616x3714 pixels, 20.85 megapixels
Raw Medium, Lossless Comp 38.4MB, 5616x3714 pixels, 20.85 megapixels
Raw Medium, Lossless Comp with APS-C crop 31MB, 5616x3714, 20.85 megapixels
Very handy free 1.5 zoom if you are happy to shoot at 21 Megapixels!
What I'm saying is that you can't use the reduced RAW sizes when you're shooting in APS-C crop mode. It stops pixel binning and just gives you the full 21MP.

If those are made in China, yes. They will be under 30% rate.
Grip sell about 250, case and hood are about 150 in Chinese market.

If you think $150 for a lens hood for a 35mm lens, and $250 for a small metal hotshoe thumb grip are acceptable prices, I don’t know what to tell you. The accessories are a greed driven pricing, not a tariff driven pricing. The hood should be included with the camera. It’s atrocious that a $5,100 camera doesn’t come with the lens hood. The thumb grip is similar to countless accessory thumb grips for cameras that are regularly between $8 and $50 (for the nice ones).

I've never used the RAW small option, but I just tried it and got consistent results - both full frame and cropped RAW files are 12 MP, 31MB files. I did notice that I still got a mid-size 21 MP jpeg, which is how I have it set in the menu. That was interesting, I would have assumed the jpeg would also be reduced. Not sure if I have a use for that, but interesting nonetheless.

I think even for people who buy RX1RIII, probably fewer people will buy these accessories, there are offering from Neewer, small rig, etc. and can generally be had for less than 20 bucks.

I did exactly this with the RX1R II. The Sony round hood was like $150-200. I bought nice metal third party ones for $30-40, even before we had all these options. Same for the thumb grip. I have a beautiful one that is brassing nicely and it was a fraction of the price.
I think people forget that these cameras were ALWAYS "luxury" items. You have a limited number of these things selling AND your attach rates are limited. If you're doing small runs of things like this, your margins have to adjust accordingly.

Just imagine if Sigma had developed this camera like its BF. Only 6 can be made a day because it is carved out of a solid block of Aluminum, yet it still costs $2000. C'on Sony, you could have cornered the market, and everyone would be praising you.

Didn't talk about acceptable or not. It meant to answer regarding tariff impacts on price. I am not target group for these 3 accessories but if they are interesting enough to me and the only options, I will get them. they are not worth it to me because I didnt buy them but is that a interesting thing to tell you about that?
Again, this becomes a repetitive regarding asking price for OEM accessories and parts from any manufactures. It is a waste of time on these kind of arguments.

I have been watching a few influencer videos. The new EVF sticks out so far. Sony could've made it into a tilting EVF like Leica's Visoflex. That would have made the fixed LCD more acceptable.

There is an included rubber eye cup that a lot of reviewers are using. That might be what you are seeing as sticking out far. It is removable. The camera does not come with it attached; it is separate in the box.

this is the same way it was with original rx1, this is hardly a new issue with this model. luckily you could get a nearly identical one for $20 within a month. personally, i wouldn't bother either accessory even for $20.

Yeah, all of the accessories even from the original RX1 were expensive. I don’t like that it is that way, but that’s the way it’s been for a long time.

Just like the original where you can attach it to the popout EVF and lose it the same day.
