I've been comparing the Sony A7CII to the Leica SL2-S using auto focus lenses. The first thing I noticed is the Sony (default settings) has depth of field preview always enabled. The Leica doesn't and the only option is to manually enable the preview before each shot using a customizable button. I much prefer having it enabled at all times like the Sony does. My question is: which mirrorless brands have always on depth of field preview? Do the latest cameras from Nikon/Canon have this feature? Or is it only a Sony thing? It seems odd to me that the Leica doesn't support it, but overall the AF on the Leica is very basic. Does the SL3-S have it?
Nikon will only preview up to f5.6 in real time, not sure about Canon. The reason is that AF accuracy is better the more open the aperture is.
My X2D doesn't show DoF preview at all while shooting, it's wide open all the time, and there aren't enough Fn buttons to dedicate one to DoF previewing so that's annoying.
That makes a lot of sense regarding the Nikon. I need to test the Sony to see what happens at say f8 to f11. Also need to test in low light. Sorry to hear about the X2D. Such a cool camera from what I’ve read about it.
I tested it on Sony and it appears to still do realtime even at F16 with indoor LED lights. So no F5.6 limit like you mentioned on Nikon. I'm really curious to find out how it works on Canon.
