I almost lept through my screen when I thought I'd get PL8 for "free" with a Nik or Viewpoint purchase, only to find it's the "essentials" version. That said, I think it's an interesting deal if you've wanted any of these products.
The offer I received is for PL Essentials or Viewpoint for free with an upgrade to Nik. I already have PL 8 Elite but I’m tempted to upgrade to get the free Viewpoint. Anyone have any opinion on that tool?
I wasn’t going to upgrade my NIK version to 8 but adding in Viewpoint for free I decided to give it a go. And yes viewpoint integration into to PL 8 is pretty nice.
Have they made it so FilmPack, Viewpoint and Nik can be installed independently of PL? I have an older version of FP but it won't installed without an even older version of PL, so I can't use it. Still on PL5 I think, I've been considering upgrading it but hate having to upgrade everything - it gets a little too expensive to be worthwhile. While I know I can upgrade to PL8 and Nik will continue to work, I'm worried that's only true for Nik and other tools if they're already installed; on a fresh install I'd have to start over.
You’ve always been able run their tools without PL. Viewpoint and Filmpack add features to PL but PL isn’t required to use them as standalone apps. And Nik works as a plugin or standalone.

Actually, it seems they do offer a standalone install option - in the past it refused because there was no "qualifying" software on the system. Now I just need to get the activation counts reset.
