p.1 #1 · Which Voigtlander lenses should they bring to Z mount next?

Cosina usually releases lenses in M mount first and later ports some of them to other mounts, so I thought it might be fun debating what we would like to see (even though they won't care what we want anyway )

Personally, I'd be most interested in..
- 28mm f2 APO Lanthar
- a small fifty for the Zf, either the 50mm f1.5 or even the f2.2 (though I'd more likely pick up the latter in M mount)

Other candidates that I could see, but am less interested in personally:
- 90mm f2 APO Ultron
- 35mm and 50mm f1.2
- 35mm f1.5
- 21mm f1.4 (maybe? it's somewhat old, so not sure they'd still port it)

Also, it would be great to get some more compact options for the Zf, more in line with their "D" primes but full frame, not DX. f2 or f2.8 would be fine with me.. but I guess the market for that is pretty small, so seems rather unlikely..

How about you?

The only one I care about right now is the 40/1.2 II (the rendering updates seem meaningful per Fred's comparison).

For a 28, I'm waiting on Thypoch to release the Simera Mark II version that will be chipped later this year/early next. That is much more compelling to me than the 28/2 personally.

Didn’t know Thypoch did chipped lenses, interesting to have them as another option.

Agree that f2 isn’t really fast enough to isolate subjects with a 28mm lens. I mostly use the APO Lanthars for landscape-y images and their appeal is how well corrected they are despite the compact size and reasonable price.

Again, just adapt the M if you want to shoot it now. You can get even autofocus with it, not that anything is in focus with that lens regardless

I would like to see a small CV 20 or 21mm lens in Z mount to compliment the 40mm f/1.2. I will consider the Thypoch if they release a chipped version.

From the current line-up the 21/1.4 is on top of my wish list.

a 24 or 25mm F2.0 would be my dream.

The APO macro 110 would be my first choice. But I doubt it will happen. Then the 90 APO would be a good option. And the APO 28.

I don’t expect the Nokton 21/1.4 anymore.

There is already the 75/1.5 which is a great portrait lens.

The 21/3.5. I don't give a hoot for the 20/1.4, just buy the Nikon Z 20/1.8 instead. But the 21/3.5 was something uniquely small and performant. I've got the E mount dumb-adapted at the moment, but a sleek chipped Z version would be a delight and something actually filling a gap.

Anyway, as usual my needs exceed all of your wants and they should make my lens now!

P.S. Is there something to the 40/1.2 II besides reduction in onion rings? Cause I'm not sure expecting the change between the VM versions is going to be reflective of a hypothetical Z II version. The Z 40/1.2 was released quite a bit after the original VM and aspherical element production has been improving the whole time. My Z 40/1.2 has very mild onion ring that I have to look for. And it doesn't sound like the VM II completely eliminates it either. So there really might be no point to a Z II unless there is some other drastic change in rendering I'm missing (quite possible).

Basically, with seven native Z lenses and another dozen old vintage lenses, I've reached a point where more doesn't make sense.
But I might be tempted to try a 21mm Colar Skopar for the Z mount.

An alternative would be a new version of the Voigtlander 36-82/2.8 Zoomar, this time as the Voigtlander 35-70/2 Zoomar with Apo Lanthar genes, made by Cosina.

My knee jerk reaction is the 21 1.4 but as Kwalsh suggests, the Nikon 20 Z is probably a better alternative. So I agree a 20 3.5 would probably be more tempting.

Interesting how much interest there is in a 20/21mm. Maybe they could update the 21mm f/3.5 for all mounts to make it an APO-Skopar and slightly sharper overall..

I'm also enjoying the 18mm Solinon on the M - underrated focal length imo (90° horizontal FOV still feels very natural compared to even wider lenses).

A 20 mm would fill the gap between 15 mm (Super Wide Heliar) and 28 mm (Nokton & the probably on the way CV Z 28/2 Apo).

A compact & lightweight 20 mm lens would represent a rather good complement to the many 24-28/xxx Z zooms (24-50/4-6.3: 24-70/4; 24-70/2.8, 28-75/2.8; 24-120/4, 24-200, 28-400), with no need to carry a UWA zoom, often with overlapping focal lengths.

The Z 20/1.8 S is almost as large and heavy as my Zeiss ZF 100/2 Makro-Planar! The CV 21/1.4 isn't that compact and lightweight; it needs an adapter, which adds weight and cost.

I, too, would like to see a small, compact and quality 20 mm prime.

If Thypoch updates their lenses to be chipped, I will definitely be giving them a try. That's the biggest issue I currently see with their lenses.

Agreed, count me in as this is the only thing holding me back currently.

21/3.5 Color Skopar has been on wanted list for a long time.
I adapted VM version, also had E one too - but E version of 35mm f1.4 is one of the most beautiful lens I've ever seen.
I wish they could same design in Z mount, sweet and small.
Or, try and make 21/1.8 Ultron for Z, no need for 1.4.

28APO will be here next year for Z, so thats good.

Having shot with the VZ 35 APO, 18/2.8 X mount (on Fuji), the E-mount 21/1.4 and 21/3.5 (dumb adapted to Z), I'm only seriously interested if it says "APO" on the label. I might investigate a small 21mm for Z, even if it doesn't say "APO" on it, because a small, manual focus 21mm is a useful thing to have.

Apart from 28APO, do we know of any possible next lens from Voigtlander?
