Some are I guess. My R5MkII with 1.0.3 has been flawless with the new firmware added. No lockups, great tracking and incredible ability to see through branches reliably.
Thanks for the info. For now, I’d prefer the 1.0.2. I have 1.0.1 which woks fine, but if the reported problems are factual, this would not be a precedent. The camera AF on the 7D2 after the f/m 1.0.3 installation (what a coincidence) was never the same and I had to dump it.
Is there a site where the 1.0.2 d/load is still available? Canon sites don’t have it.

Is that an old camera? I recently got in a 2024 R5 II (if any camera <1 YO is old) with 1.0.3. I have no way to test it until use which would be too late.
Got my R5MkII back in May this year. It came with 1.0.2 on it and as soon as my battery was charged I updated it to the 1.0.3. At a point in June I took it back to 1.0.2 to see what all the fuss was about. Didn't find it to work quite as well so went back to 1.0.3 and haven't looked back.
Bought my R5II back in December and upgraded in May....well before completing my "learning curve", having come from the 1DX and 5DSR. After the upgrade I struggled with some focus issues, but soon realized it was my lack of understanding in all of the possible settings you can adjust for specific functionality. I am still learning (old dog...new tricks), but have not had any issues other than self-induced. BTW, I strongly recommend buying and downloading the PDF book "Understanding the Canon EOS R5 Mark II" by Nina Bailey.
It really helped me clarify some of the confusion I faced and still face. The camera is the most amazing piece of equipment I have ever used, but it is complex this book really helps face that learning challenge. It may help you determine if the issue you have is really a firmware issue or perhaps, like myself, lack of a bit more knowledge. Good luck.
The camera is new with the ser. # 1472023xxxxx. No idea if the production date is imbedded in it. It could be 2023.
The R5 II is basically a better implementation of the R5 C with new battery supporting all video modes and stabilization sans the hurricane blower. I expected the stills/video separation to simplify the menu labyrinth, but it hasn’t, unfortunately. The small batteries used by Canon/Sony on the mirrorless cameras don’t last long. For few hrs. of use a pair is insufficient. The AF is improved, but not better than R3 which also has much better LCD which is important for the video. I would not like the repeat of past experience with the 7D II and I don’t understand why Canon doesn’t make the earlier f/m ver. available. I can get very old macOS with no hassle directly from Apple.
Still looking for the 1.0.2 f/w. Can anybody help?

You could try this? It downloaded fine for me.. though I didn't apply it, so the risk is yours..
Thanks BrandonSi.
The important fix is: It iIncorporates support for frame rates of 23.98fps/24.00fps when using the LP-E6NH and LP-E6N battery.” since I’ve there batteries.
Update: the f/m installation went smoothly, but re-loading settings from the memory card didn’t. The older batteries are usable albeit with some limitations. Setting the camera is a mind numbing experience. The photo & video separation was a big opportuminty to redo and simplify the system. Instead Canon has doubled on the mess. There are new menus, options, interdependencies and annoying warning messages. A 1227 page UM must be an industry record. Interestingly, nobody talks about it. It seems that after spending money people feel obligated to happily drown in the menu system, silently. Thanks again for the link BrandonSi.

You're welcome, glad it worked! Might give it an upgrade since I'm still on 1.0.1 myself.
