Hi all! This is my first post here. I just received my OM-1 a couple of days ago and I've been playing with it continuously. I watched a petapixel comparison review of the OM-1 vs the G9 II. When they were showing static subject tracking (what I love to call smart focus and recompose), the om1 clearly showed a frame that locked on to that subject. I cannot make that frame show up for the life of me. I only see the little tiny green squares confirming where the focus is. I believe I have gone over every single menu page and every single menu option and just cannot find anything that looks like would cause that to be activated. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
I don't think you have subject ID set. You cannot use subject ID with tracking but once a subject is located the camera will track the subject all over the frame.
I believe I understand your objective. You are in the "non-denominational" tracking mode (no subject is specified), and you want the camera to focus on a subject and keep the subject in focus while you move the camera to re-compose. This is an attractive alternative to composing and using the joystick to move and place the focus frame/point on the subject. I tried this with the smallest possible focus point on my OM-1 II. The problem I encountered was that in this particular CA + tracking mode the smallest point acts as an extended spot, not like a true single focus point. As a consequence, if there is anything within the expanded area of focus that happens to be closer to camera, then the camera focuses on that closer to camera subject. I was unable to make my OM-1 II behave like the Sony A1 that focuses only on the exact spot when using the smallest spot to focus, then stays focused there when I recompose.
I don't know what you mean by "I only see the little tiny green squares confirming where the focus is." Does the plural "squares" mean you see several tiny green squares in a frame? If yes, then change the focus area to a single point, with the understanding that this would actually behave as an extened small spot while focusing.

Possibly if you build a 1 x 1 custom focus area it will work the wat you want. In a macro discussion an OM engineer recommended this.

Tried exactly this, still works as an extended spot in C-AF + TR on OM-1 II.
