In defence of there nests, the colonies of black skimmers and terns blast off at once creating confusion for attackers. When I first started photographing them, it worked quite well at preventing me from getting flight shots. Today I've learned to pay attention to my subject or composition of the group and I suspect there pray eventually figures it out as well.

Great song. Sadly the tern numbers are way down. There are usually about 2,000 terns in the colony before the chicks are borne yet this year it's about 500. Very sad to see.
