p.1 #1 · Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary Lens (Sony E)

Hi folks, thinking of getting a copy for an upcoming trip to the southern desert as an all in one light travel lens, it will be paired with the A7VI.
Wondering if anyone is using it on full frame Sony as is this lens meant for the APC format.
Thanks folks.....

Tamron 28-200 is cheaper, lighter and designed for full frame.
I think that's the smart choice.

I have that lens, it's not my favorite.

Which camera will you be using it on? There’s no A7VI.
What don’t you like about the 28-200?

It's the A7IV. The Tamron doesn't have image stabilization & it doesn't reach far. Some of the pics aren't as sharp as the sony 24-105.

In that case, I wouldn’t use an APS-C lens on the IV because you lose too much resolution. But if you can live with less than 15 mpx then I guess it’s an option. The Sigma lens will give you more range but I don’t think the images will be sharper than the Tamron.

I like my 28-200. That would be my choice for a single lens here in California and the southwest. I have the 18-135, 70-350 and several other aps-c lenses, if considering aps-c lenses on ff. The 70-350 is the only aps-c I typically use on my A7riv.

If 2 lenses, maybe 20-70/4 and the 50-300?

The pics of the Sigma 18-300 will be even less sharp compared to the Sony 24-105, so this is not an argument.

From a physics / optics perspective,

"reach" varies with NA = focal length / aperture

NOT focal length alone.

300/6.7 = 44

200/2.8 = 71

Therefore, a 200/2.8 is likely to resolve distant detail 61% better than a 300/6.7, if both lenses are made equally well.

This number represents the upper limit of optical resolution, in the real world, lenses will only hit a certain % of the upper limit.
