I have the lens, and I basically use it as an f8 zoom on my Z8. The 28-400mm may not win any awards for IQ, but there is no other lens with the same level of versatility. If you take photos in good light and use it to it's strengths, it's a great tool to have in your bag. At the end of the day, you can't go back and get photos you missed due to changing lenses or juggling cameras.

The Rufous photos are great!, I have the bigger and heavier Nikon glass, but I have had the 28-400 since NP offered an early purchase and one of the few lenses I have bought before I saw any reviews. While it isn't perfect, far from it, it is an amazing one lens solution to throw in a backpack when I am mostly doing another activity like fishing, but still want to have a credible landscape to animal lens for the unexpected opportunity like a bear or moose presenting a good shot. It is good with a Z7 and a better weight balance but I have found a heavier Z8 at 20 fps makes for much more allowance to get the photo, because it isn't perfect.
