Someone please tell us if the auto focus is more accurate, meaning less likely to indicate focus when it’s actually front or back focused…

My Tamron 35-150 A058Z stopped working (unrecognized by body) after upgrading the firmware to 3.0, and I've got reports from my local group that their 28-75/2.8 G2 also stopped working. I thought the caution was only about not upgrading the firmware with the lenses attached, but it seems like the issue is between the new firmware and Tamron lenses.

I cross-checked and my Tamron 35-150 still works on the Z6II, and my newly-updated Z8 works with the Viltrox 20/2.8, Fringer EF-NZ, "Tamnikon" 28-75/2.8, etc. So it is just that the Tamron lenses aren't supported with firmware 3.0.

Update: TTArtisans M-Z 6-bit adapter also doesn't work after the upgrade.

I’m waiting this one out. My only third party lens is a Tamron sp 35 1.4 that works fine on my Z8, Z9 and D5. There’s nothing compelling me to upgrade to FW 3 if it will brick my lens.

WOW, I certainly hope there is an update from Megadap and Viltrox. The main reason for me keeping my Z is to use Sony lenses on. Without that option,
I think I'd rather sell all my Nikon stuff and buy an A1.

Man, that’s really disappointing that Nikon would break compatibility with major third party glass. I understand adapters might need updates, as that’s common, but licensed third party lenses breaking is unacceptable IMO.

Downloaded and installed this morning with no issues. Took the camera out in the backyard for an hour, see photos in the Z8/Z9 thread, and worked fine for all my normal settings. I didn't try any of the new stuff yet just wanted to make sure the old stuff worked and so far so good.

Someone on DPR reported that turning the Focus Limiter setting "ON" causes the Tamron 70-300 AF to stop working, but turning that setting to "OFF" then results in the AF working again. A second person reported that their Tamron 35-150 also works fine with that setting turned off. Would be interesting to see if that's the case for all Tamron lenses.

Had my Z8 for 18 months and never had that problem.

Interesting, though not totally surprising.

I'm not trying to side to Nikon, but as someone who's in software development, it's so hard to keep compatibility alive with new features added.
I'm wondering, why we're expecting Nikon to consider third party compatibility here.
They will come up with own FW updates to catch up with Nikon's new FW, we just need to be patient.
If there is concern about certain lenses and adapters, I would delay FW update on my camera, until there is confirmation from those third party manufacturers, they have updates available.
I don't think it'll take that long, they're aware of it, and they plan resources to get it out as quickly as possible.

Three out of a few possible scenarios,

1) Nikon shared the update with partners and partners aren't ready to release(perhaps similar to the scenario with editing software) OR
2) Partners did a poor job of implementing the original protocols OR
3) Nikon was less open about the possible impact of this update. This weakens the perception of a solid compatibility with partner lenses and shouldn't happen. In this case they'd deserve some flogging.

Partners have had it good with numerous firmware that Nikon has released over the past five plus years across all generations of ML bodies. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.
Same applies for third party licensed adapters, of which I know zero. For everyone else, it's a minor inconvenience for what could be considered chance-taking but the Chinese will be working hard at the updates as I write this.

As mention by others, upgraded to fw 3.0 today and no longer works with my Tamron 35-150. Anyone know of a way to revert back to 2.10?

Did you check the Focus Limiter setting and if it's turned on, did you try turning it off?

I updated this morning and I don't have any issues with my Tamron 35-150. The lens is running firmware version 2 which it came with.
