My friend Phil, a commercial photographer now retired, has given me his Toyo View system to sell for him. I'll be posting it with details of course in Buy & Sell, but before I do that, is there still a market for this kind of gear? My experience with selling his Hasselblad gear has been disappointing, even at low prices, I'm wondering if 4X5 will be worth the trouble. He has four lenses, and a bunch of accessories for it, so I am looking to gauge interest.
My sense is that there are not a lot of film photographers in the already small pool of people who use FM to buy gear. Large Format is also a limited niche. I never even look on Buy and Sell for film gear, since there's usually so little there, and most of it is too expensive for my tastes.
If I was selling that system it would be on eBay, no other market comes close for access to customers. If you have access to a large city, Craigslist might be another decent option.
absolutely ebay for niche camera like this. That looks like a monorail camera which are in lower demand than field cameras. I would probably list the additional lenses separate to the camera.
Large format forum has a fairly active buy sell section, but there are some rules for eligibility to post there. Monorails like this are slow movers even at low prices. For LF gear the fastest sellers tend to be from the ultra premium end - Linhof, Arca Swiss, Ebony, etc.
It also would not hurt to ask catlabs what they would offer. Odds are they will low-ball you, but maybe cash now is more important than more cash later?
Your best indicator on a likely sell price is the sell prices on eBay.
That looks like an older design Toyo View. The newer design 45G models are selling in the $150 to $300 price range, so this older one will go for less. if the bag bellows isn't light tight, then it's worth even less.
If you want to get the most money, sell the lenses separately. There's still a decent market for the better large format lenses.
I sold a complete Horseman 450 kit on eBay last year, with bag bellows for 375.00 but the shipping was the killer; it ended up at 110.00 and I split that up with the buyer. Four lenses sold separately for 845.00 total on LFP website within 2 weeks. I had tried here on FM but had zero interest...
