p.1 #2 · Adapter for Sony E mount lens - how well do they work?
It is somewhat lens dependent, and very new lenses often take some time to get best compatibility with the major adapters, but the vast majority of lenses work VERY well on the Megadap with regards to AF and features.
The Megadap, however, is slightly thinner than the ideal 2.0mm (it’s around 1.95mm). This makes little to no difference for normal and telephoto lenses, and even some wide angle lenses too, but other wide angle to ultra wide lenses can sometimes be affected strongly by slightly imperfect registration distance. The Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 is notorious for this, and so it’s recommended to use a more accurate adapter for thickness for lenses like this (such as Fotodiox Fusion). On the Megadap; that lens has atrocious field curvature that renders the lens all but useless, but on the Fotodiox it’s great. For the 300-600 this wouldn’t matter at all, though.
With that said, the Megadap is currently the best with regards to electronics and the Viltrox is also quite good for a lot less money.
There has been one report of the 300-600 being used, and if I recall it mostly worked fine but had a few quirks.
I’ve had outstanding success with the 35/1.4GM and 50/1.2GM and the Sigma 85/1.4 was also very good for me. The GMs act like native lenses.

I have been using the Viltrox E-Z AF Lens Mount Adapter (Sony E to Nikon Z) with a Sony FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS Lens (Sony E) on both a Nikon Z8 and Z9 for about a month now, and am very happy with the results. From my experience the AF speed and accuracy are much better than I expected and seem very close to native Nikon glass.
Some users have commented on the loose fit of the Viltrox, but my copy fits both the Z8 and Z9 very well with minimal play, and with even the Sony lens mounted there is no perceptible movement.
I did some testing on the Sony 100-400mm and the Sony 200-600 and both worked well.

Can a Sigma 35mm f/1.2 be expected to work well with Megadap (or with Z-mount bodies in general)?
I have the Sigma and a Sony A7 III as well as a Nikon Zf and the Viltrox EZ adapter. For portrait work - slow but where tracking is important - I found the lens to perform even better on the Zf due to its newer AF system.
So yes, I found it to work more than sufficient. This might be different for anything faster.
There is some small amount of radial play on the lens' side.

I tried the Megadap on the Z9 with the Sony 70-200 and compared it to the native Z 70-200/2.8. It worked well with static subjects, eye detection etc, but the hot rate was poor on moving subjects, around 70% vs > 95% on the native Nikon.

My 35 1.2 works fine on Z8, so far I have not faced any issue with my E mount lens, I personally feel Sony cripples third party lenses AF and they work better with Megadap. My Samyang 135mm F1.8 is noticeable faster and more accurate on Z than native E.

I have the megadap and the Viltrox. I got the Viltrox first until a used megadap became available. They both work fairly well. I do find that there is less play in the megadap. The Viltrox would occasionally lose connection. That’s why I decided to buy the other. I will probably stick with the megadap and keep the Viltrox in my bag.
