Night Heron Flyby ... still amazed how quick the R3 will focus on flying birds. It's quite a bit quicker than the Z8, but if the bird is perched with branches etc in the foreground, the Z8 does a better job.

Yep, you guessed it. Yet another "1st for me".
I thought these friendly little guys were just your normal everyday chipmunks. But they are actually the rare and exotic Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel.
Notice the lack of pin strips along his head. Only 2 strips on these guys vs. 3 on eastern chipmunks.
Ok. maybe not rare or exotic, but still a 1st for me!
This little one actually came up and grabbed the foot on my monopod and let me lift him off the ground.
I then offered my open hand (no food) and he came over and put his tiny paw/hand on my finger.
They are quit the little beggars apparently.
With this challenge in mind, I put forth my very best field skills as a "not so" professional wildlife photographer to capture these rare images of this elusive predator off nuts.
It was risky but well worth the efforts.
And let this rambling be a testament as to why one should not make image posts after drinking a cold refreshing adult beverage with a shot or 3 in it.

Nice set! I know of only one pair around me and they never seem to move

Thanks
They are quite common here this time of year when all the babies venture out. I wish they would stand still for me. I'll ship you some in trade for some of your fancy Owls.
