p.1 #1 · Imaging 2025

Compared to the stunning images posted by AviationBuff, there is nothing at all remarkable about this image. However, considering what I shot it with, I think it demonstrates how far digital imaging has come. I was biking and carrying just my little Leica D-Lux 8 with just a 17 MP 4/3" CMOS sensor with 24-70mm lens. As I got near the Truax Air Base where there is a large squadron of F-35 fighter jets, the pilots were practicing "touch and go's." This shot is blown up quite a bit but with available software it's possible to hold the image together and make it passable.

That's a pretty fine capture by anyone's standards, Brent!

I agree with Douglas Brent!
A great capture with what you had! Love the water vapor coming off the wing tips. The sky really makes this pop!

Thanks, Marcelo. I think sometimes the EXIF data is incorrect. I know it's been wrong about the aperture setting with fixed focal length lenses with my M bodies. In this case I know I was fully zoomed out to 70mm, which still isn't very long to get a shot this tight. I cropped significantly, even though the jet was at a low altitude almost directly over me. Then I had to use noise reduction and sharpening. If the lens had only been at 34mm, I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to get this result.
