I ventured to Huntley Meadows outside Washington, D.C. early this morning to put my new Sony 400-800G through its paces. The pickings were slim until a belted kingfisher showed up. He posed nicely in the sun for awhile, then decided it was time for breakfast. He quickly caught a fish and landed on a branch to enjoy his meal, but literally bit off more than he could chew. The fish was not enthusiastic about meeting his fate, and gave the bird a run for the money. The kingfisher was unable to just swallow the fish, so he started whacking the fish on the branch until the fish was sufficiently stunned to permit Mr. Kingfisher to finish his breakfast. The ordeal lasted about 10 minutes, and it was something to watch.
