p.1 #1 · Color or B&W Version? Oxbow Bend....

I'm just back from my eighth trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP. We had cold and sometimes snowy spring weather, but these parks never disappoint. One of my favorite spots for landscapes is Oxbow Bend on the Snake River. I've left one in color, but the b&w version also looks good to me. I'm curious what you all think, which do you prefer? This was one of Ansel Adam's favorite hangouts....

I guess I'm no Ansel Adams! Seems like the consensus is the color version. Basically it is just a gorgeous spot...

Both are nice, but I prefer the expression of tones in the black & white image, for me it has more of a fine art feel.

The way they are now, I prefer the color version. But the B&W has more potential to be pushed further in contrast, which might give it a more dramatic look - if that is desirable for you of course. Generally I feel you can usually go more extreme with tonal changes on B&W, while with colored images you reach the breaking point very quickly. E.g. your colored version is very nicely processed and I would not go much further on it.

I like the B&W version. And I agree with DistantPlaces that it could use more contrast to bring out more intensity.

B&W, with more contrast in the sky, and trees. Would also do a top down gradient burn of the sky. Finally, it may be just an optical illusion, based on the trees to the right of Grand Teton, but the image seems rotated ever so slightly CCW.

I really enjoyed the B&W
I think the color is very pleasing and may be more powerful with a change in the season foliage coloring? The green just seems to battle against the beautiful blues.
So the B&W wins out for me, I like the contrast though a bit more in the sky could be a benefit and also think a slight CW rotation is needed. What do you think about a little less on the bottom area closer to where the dark tips of trees start?

What a view, thanks for sharing, hope someday to stand there too! Both are great images BTW

For what it's worth, I prefer the black and white version. They're both gorgeous! Great job!

I want to prefer the B&W, and think that if the contrast were just a touch greater, I would. My eye is searching for that true deep black point, something to anchor it.

Either way, a wonderful comp!

Nice shot. BW for me, but I agree with Todd on a bit more contrast/red filter.

B&W for me by far, at least for the conditions in this shot.
