Spent a couple of day photographing these colourful birds in Northern Portugal. These birds overwinter in Africa but migrate northeast to breed in the southern, northern and the interior of Portugal. These are social birds so usually where there is one you will likely find a number of them. They dig deep burrows in the sand, usually by the side of a river bank or any sandy area with a vertical face.
