p.1 #1 · Ocotillo and Golden Light in the Grand Canyon
Congratulations to Adam Schallau for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 7 votes - View Previous Winners
An ocotillo blooms as golden light falls upon the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. This is from a recent 14-day overlanding trip into Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, along with a few remote overlooks on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. It was a very rewarding trip, and I was able to make many photos.
I leave tomorrow to lead a 10-day rafting and photography expedition through the Grand Canyon. This will be my ninth trip rafting the Colorado River through the canyon.

Lovely imaging Adam. There are now many flowering ocotillo at river level as you get close to take out at Diamond Creek. And, of course, on the road out.

Really enjoying the spilling-over light and rays. Great vision and the reds of the ocotillo are a nice contrast to the golden hues. Very nicely composed and seen and presented

Thank you, Jeffrey. The area from Tuckup Canyon to Diamond Creek usually has some nice ocotillo this time of year.

Thanks, Karl. I'm very happy with the way the elements in the photo came together.

Good work adam ,you must have a great understanding of the best spots and moments to capture.
Thank you. The more I learn about the canyon and the river, the more I am surprised by the number of little changes that occur every year. It may be a slot canyon that disappears when it fills in with rocks and other debris from a flash flood, or a new waterfall formed by the same flood. The landscape is constantly changing. That said, I've been very lucky to witness some incredible moments, and even photograph them as I develop a better understanding of the canyon environment.
