I'm always amazed on how good the A1 series cameras are at tracking fast moving subjects like this American Kestrel even when there are obstructions in it's path.

Late afternoon, 17 F with wind chills zero and below. Surprisingly, the river hasn't frozen yet, so the cranes seem to have decided it's warmer to just stand in the water for hours on end. It's been endlessly cloudy and dark recently, no good light to be found anywhere, but I gave this a high key look so the photo is a lie but no one wants to look at a uniformly dark gray low contrast reality...

The pileated woodpeckers around here are almost always *very* shy. They see me anywhere and off they go, so my images of them are generally pretty poor. Finally, one cold recent afternoon, I came across one that had clearly found a motherlode of ants, and was thus content to feast while I watched for a good ten minutes & I could actually get a proper image.
