I am wondering when Annas will start colonizing east of the Mississippi. They are now permanent residents in Central Oregon, which is a high-altitude, cold climate. It has been conjectured that people putting out feeders in the winter have helped Anna's expand their territory. Below zero degrees, they go into torpor and can weather extreme temperatures and long, cold nights.
I feel lucky that even living in Canada I have Anna's all year round. Always fun to shoot them in the snow. Although I do feel bad for them during the few sub-freezing/snow days we get each winter.
