p.1 #1 · Nikon Z lenses for Deep Sky Objects (DSO)
Hi all. The title is the big giveaway here but I am wondering if there are users here on the forum that are into astrophotography, not so much in Milky Way kind of photos typically taken by a wide angle lens.
No, I hope to hear feedback from users that did do nebulae for instance or star clusters, ...
Think on lenses like the 100-400mm, 400mm f/4.5 or even the 400mm f/2,8 and 600mm f/4 TC along with a (astro modded) Z body.
I have a friend that did some astrophotography with the Plena and that is superb but curious to see if others have tried it with one of those tele (zoom) lenses on a mount that tracks the night sky to enable the possibility of long exposers.

Until someone chimes in with actual user experience with Z telephotos you might wish to take a browse over at what the kind DSLR/MILC astro-imaging folks at cloudynights are up to...

I haven't done so in years, but I did mess a bit with my 70-200 VR II and 300mm f2.8 in the DSLR days.
The longer your lens, the more critical a star tracker will be, and the heavier the lens, the more accurate of a star tracker you will need. The 300mm f4 PF may be a nice compromise between cost, reach, light gathering, and weight, but I have not used it for deep sky objects. The 200mm f2 could also be interesting, but it is a lens I have not gotten to use outside of trade shows.
These are not my images, but they may give you some good ideas of what lenses are capable of.
