This is nothing special, a basic astro landscape...

...but, it's taken with a cell phone. I bought a Google Pixel 8 Pro. It has a special astro-mode, that takes 16 frames with 16 seconds exposure each. Then, it stacks them together. It outputs a 50 megapixel dng -file.

Pretty amazing what modern tech can do, imo!

Wow, you're right, that is amazing for a phone!

If you told me 10 years ago phones would be able to take an astro pic almost as good as a dedicated setup, I would have spit in your face. Now, look at this. It is even picking up faint hydrogen alpha in Barnards Loop.

A really nice result indeed! Very cool that the 'phone is able to do all the stacking internally. How does the transition look between the trees and sky when viewed at 100%?

Given the specific 'phone used, I'm surprised the end result isn't... wait for it... Pixel-8-ed.

Thanks

The transitions are generally good, but in some parts you can see star trails. But, results are acceptable.

Here's another from the same night.

My brain just did a few loops. does not compute!! Should I ditch the big camera for a new cell phone instead? Did you prop the phone on something or have a dedicated tripod? I did the math, I can't imagine you holding the phone for four plus minutes trying not move. 48mp sensor on a phone is rather mind boggling.... Quite amazing they can squeeze so many megapixels out of such tiny sensors. Shouts to all those unsung heroes at Samsung and Sony popping these marvels of engineering out. Images look great, nothing bad to say here.

Thanks.

Yes, regarding the sky, this pixel does better work than Nikon D850. Landscape, not so much.

The phone was on a tripod.
