p.1 #1 · First outing with 4x5": thoughts and a portfolio

Hello everyone,

After months studying and preparing myself for the move back to analog photography, in early September 2024 my wife and I were ready to hit the road again. This time, after 15 years of doing professional landscape photography with digital cameras, from 35mm to digital backs with tech cameras, I didn’t have one with me. Instead, I was proudly carrying a 4x5” film camera with me, my Arca-Swiss F-line custom.

I wrote an article on my Blog about the experience, sharing my thoughts and a small Portfolio shot in Kent & Sussex, in the UK, which you can find here:

FIRST OUTING WITH 4X5” FILM: THOUGHTS AND A PORTFOLIO

A few photographs here for you to enjoy!

Best regards,

Vieri

Nice LF imaging Vieri. I used 4x5 for many years and loved it. But digital meets my needs now so I retired from film. I still have lot's of LF gear if you're interested.

Nice set Vieri. LF photography is a long twisty road. Enjoy the journey!

Hey Jeffrey, thanks for your kind words, happy you liked them. I went the other way round, going back to film after getting to high-end digital MF... digital is amazing, and I love my Phase One IQ4 Achromatic of course; the look and feel of LF film is just different for me and I am loving the journey with it so far.

Thank you so much Guido! Yes, LF is something else, but I am loving it so far - both the process and the results!

Very nice images, I love 4x5 ratio, LF is something I will have to try, love the pace of reasoned photography

Hello Giovanni, thank you very much, happy you enjoyed them! Yes, 4x5" is great, the pace is different of course and the level of control is also different (tilt, swing, rise, shift...). While one can get close with a tech camera with a digital back, like my Phase One IQ4 and Alpa, it's still not the same thing for me.

Best regards,

Vieri
