A small padded tripod bag.
My most commonly used bag for 200-600 is a Manfrotto 80cm padded tripod bag.
Works well with body attached although only need about 60cm length.
For Sigma 500 f4 and body, I use a padded chainsaw bag.

I hope it has a decent padded case, but if not then what would minimally fit and protect it in the luggage?
I'd rather see some lens tests, but nobody has any large targets nowadays

Does anyone know if the foot is the same as the 400GM and 600GM or is it a new and unique screw pattern? I have heard speculation but no confirmation.
Someone asked on B&H and a Sony rep basically said they are not the same.

Probably following Apples business model of making slight changes on new products that require all new accessories to be purchased.
Sony isn't making an Arch-Swiss compactable foot, it's all third parties making the $$$ selling the replacement foot, not remotely close to Apple's model.

Someone, maybe you, mentioned that earlier in the thread. Looking at photos though, I’m not 100% convinced.
The stock feet are definitely different. But the bolt pattern look very similar. If not identical.
I’m no lens designer, but I figure if the base design/bolt pattern is strong enough for the 600mm f4. It should be strong enough for the 400-800mm.
Design a less costly foot for the 400-800mm and call it a day. At least that’s what I’m hoping 😄
Not sure what thread I posted this in but eyeballing it seems that there is more space between the screws on the 600GM foot than the 400-800. 600GM looks like enough space for another full screw hole. 400-800 less than that.
Maybe Alex can let us know as he would have both.

Yeah, you might be right. That sucks ☹️
If you could confirm either way Alex, it’d be much appreciated
I will have one Friday at launch but won't have time to post as I will have to run from the shop to the airport as I'm headed to Ecuador for ten days of bird photography. At least I'll be able to take it and test it out; my A1II arrived last December while I was in Colombia and I had to slum it with my old A1.
I'll share what I find when I get it in hand and have Internet.

Wow, talking about cutting it close! Enjoy your trip to Ecuador and say hello to Luis/Jorge from me, please, Jeff!

I’ve never pre-ordered through B&H, do they ship so that it arrives on release day or do they wait until release day to ship?
My experience with a pre-ordered camera body was that BH shipped the day before the release so that I received it on the day of release. I had paid for one-day shipping, but still it was a pleasant surprise.

The A1ii shipping date was Dec. 20th. I received mine from B&H on Dec. 20, so they shipped in the day before (I live in NYC so it's always one-day shipping from B&H). I expect that'll be the case for this lens... it'll probably ship on the 20th and those with one-day shipping will probably get it on the 21st
Yeah they can ship the day before release date. The "shipping date" listed by B&H is typically the actual release date that you can walk in the store and get one, and it ships the day before if you order online.
I just called to see if I could change my delivery speed and they told me I’d be waiting another 2 to 4 weeks because of all the pre-orders they had so I said what’s a couple more days after all that waiting…
