I have misplace but ultimately found my Sony teleconverter lens caps a few times. I would like to buy an extra cap before I actually need one. What I have found are 2 for $49.99 plus shipping or $57.99. That seems a bit pricey. Has anyone seen them anywhere for less?
Is the cap for the teleconverter different than the standard body and lens cap? The Canon is like that.
UPDATE: just checked mine and indeed it is a different cap that accommodates the protruding end of the 1.4x. It took me a year to find a Canon replacement at a decent price on ebay, around $15.
Or you can buy a cheapo extension tube set and then you can use a regular body cap on the top of one of them. Of course, you can use the extension tubes for their intended purpose, too .
I recall someone showing an arts-n-crafts project where they sliced the bottom ring off one cap and glued it onto another to make a taller TC cap. A cheap extension tube is probably easier but not nearly as stylish.
I don't recall the name of the company but I had the same misplaced extender cap and I was able to get a replacement cap at a reasonable price and reasonable shipping time.
Perhaps someone who is good at searching this forum can share a link to that old thread or know of the Sony parts supplier I'm thinking of.
US $25.95 is quite a price for a single cap! This item is currently out of stock. 03/05/2025 or 54 days
Poor effort by Sony not to make them available at a reasonable cost.
Good opportunity for a 3D printer owner.
I might try poking a few.
I previously bought 6 x Canon caps just so I did not get caught out.
ie, used them for all lenses.
I'll order one, out of curiosity.
I think I'd rather make them myself, as per jeffbuzz and Ltgk20's post.
Reasons being
1/ Canon mentioned (years ago) they had modified caps to reduce small pieces of the cap material breaking off and becoming sensor "dust"
2/ Experience with Laowa and Samyang caps not being great fits on Sony equipment.
I have also done as per AGeoJO's post, used an extension tube.
p.1 #13 · Sony Teleconverter Lens Cap replacement?
Received the two 3D printed caps. Right, I thought, check 'em out and report.
Then I realised, I really can't say. They fit, and seem to lock OK.
The problem is, my experience with Sony caps has not been great.
I have Sony, Sigma, Laowa and Voigtlander caps.
Until recently, I thought the third party caps were a little sketch but then I found Sony cap would not lock securely on my 200-600 lens. Tried another Sony cap, no better.
So "They fit, and seem to lock OK" is about as good as I can advise, as well as they were cheap and arrived.
