p.2 #1 · Leica M11-D Issues: Seeking Advice on Replacement vs. Repair

AFA as Leica monitoring any sites, I believe they only get information from the Leica User Forum and that is filtered so that no high level Leica employee sees them.

It was a fact many years ago when I lived and worked in Germany that employees were not encouraged to mention problems within the organization freely. Germans will tell you that does not happen, but it does.

Examples-Look how long (years) it took Leica to begin fixing the M11 freezing issues, look how long it took Leica to admit and fix the SL3 issues of overwriting files which occurred immediately after launch. On and on.

Agree that having a 2nd body is essential if you don't want to be inconvenienced. I had and liked the M10-P, but prefer to have cameras in the same series so they all use the same batteries. The only thing I didn't like about the M10-P was how many batteries I had to carry. The resolution was fine. I rarely crank my M11 to the full 60 megapixels unless I am doing landscapes.

So for now, it will be the M11-D (once repaired) and my M11-M.

Agree having the same series of M cameras doubling up to interchange batteries and potential external EVF easily. I do the same with my M-E 240 and my M 246. But I figured it might be too expensive to double up with another M11 series camera especially if it is just temporary for you.

Yes, having two M11 bodies—or even two older digital Ms—is definitely a luxury, and I’m grateful to be in a position where that’s possible. You make a great point—not just about the batteries, but also the Visoflex, handgrip, and other accessories being interchangeable between bodies. From a financial perspective, it can make more sense to let digital M bodies depreciate before buying in.

p.2 #4 · Leica M11-D Issues: Seeking Advice on Replacement vs. Repair

Time to finally close the loop on this thread. The issue was resolved about a month ago, but I’ve been swamped with work and hadn’t had a chance to post an update until now.

In short: Leica provided me with a brand-new, boxed M11-D as a replacement. Once Leica France sent the faulty camera back to Germany, it took about three weeks for everything to be processed and finalized. I ended up being without my M11-D for a little over two months in total. The resolution itself was favorable, and I’m happy with the outcome.

That said, it would’ve been much better to reach this point sooner—ideally within a week, given how new the original camera was. Also, when I reached out directly to Leica Germany for assistance, the lack of communication was disappointing. That part of the process could definitely have been handled better.

Still, I’m grateful to have a fresh M11-D in hand now, and I appreciate everyone here who offered advice and support along the way.

That is fantastic news, despite the dead zone communication spots from Leica, you got the best outcome as a customer. Happy shooting !
