I personally own the M10-R in Glossy Black Paint and highly recommend either one just for the looks. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The only aesthetic difference I see is that the M10-R’s top plate is inscribed with 'ERNST LEITZ' instead of 'LEICA CAMERA'.

I have seen a lot of color and finish schemes both open production, and limited special editions, on Leica products. In my opinion, none are as beautiful or capture the leica aesthetics as the black paint finish dose. My personal favorite by a mile.

If anyone is interested, I provide professional 'patina' servicing. Send me your camera and I'll send it back with a performance patina akin to well worn jeans. Takes about a year, you can't rush these things.

I provide that service too. Here are my prices and timelines:

- a bit of patina (just a bit around the top plate, shutter, speed dial and viewfinder) = $500 (6 months waiting time)

- plenty of patina (think Leica Correspondent condition) = $1500 (1 year waiting time)

- the full beans (brass?), ie strip down around the thumbrest, all controls and tear up the leatherette a bit = $5000 (2 years waiting time)

- Black paint lenses (ie ASC/Millenium) can be done free of charge if sent with a camera otherwise prices as above

I am a trained brass technician, spent a decade trying to wear down a chrome Leica and never got anywhere. Leica on the other hand claims 3 years to train someone who won't turn up for work

I also provide a collector-beater service, you send me any M camera, I break it in a realistic way and throw in a bit of rust in there too. That's a $10000 service and depending how much rust you want anything from 1-5 years. But think how much the camera will be worth in an auction!!!

I also offer the 'dent from a stray round' option for a full war-correspondent look... "It saved my life..."

I'm glad the patina look is acceptable. All my cameras get a fair amount of unfair treatment, so trying to keep these glossy would be really hard for me.

Sure are pretty.

Disappointed that it’s not on the M11-p.

If it only had the red Leica dot. That I would cover up with a piece of black tape so that people know I am a serious photographer.

I wonder how many current M11 shooters will part with their M11 (red dot) at a steep discount (currently $5.5–6K used) to upgrade to the new Glossy Black Paint version for $9,200, purely for the cosmetic change. That’s quite a leap in price!

I know it's GAS, but whatever.

Thinking about it, the new M11 Glossy Black Paint is essentially a cosmetic upgrade of the M11, similar to the M11-P, featuring script engraving and no red dot, but with a gorgeous glossy black finish (in my opinion). For anyone who loves glossy black paint, it definitely makes sense. The differences from the M11-P may not be particularly significant...like the smaller built-in memory (64GB vs. 256GB), lack of content credentials, and gorilla Glass instead of a sapphire LCD screen.

I bought the M11-P for the script and the fact that I found a used one for not much more than an M11. Had the BP M11 been around at the time, I would have bought that instead. I really would like to have a BP but unless I can find a used one at a good price, I can't see selling my M11-P anytime soon.

How have you been finding the M11 glossy black vs the standard? I had the M11 but traded it for the M11M when that was finally released. I always intended to get the M11-D as my colour camera but I'm a bit disappointed with that release. I like the glossy black, knurled dials etc. and I'm thinking about going down that road.

Do you find the glossy paint as grippy as the M11 standard black paint was? I found the black chrome on the M10 series impossible to grip without a thumbie, but the texture of the M11 paint was brilliantly grippy and I never found the need for additional thumb support. I wasn't sure how much of that was down to the paint or the reduced weight. I'd love to hear your impressions of the heavier M11 glossy black and how you've found it in use?

If you think black chrome of m10 is hard to grip you would have trouble to hold m11 glossy black.
It’s a shining piano like paint, very slippery. I have the old grip for m11 on to the GB and it works well. Glossy is just cosmetic, it’s not very practical. But I like beauty 😀

Thank you for the reply, I figured as much but worth checking. I'll probably order in a thumbie so that it's here soon after the camera arrives.

I like the glossy as well, I wish the monochrom came in gloss black(!).

One thing I don't understand is why they chose to give the BP version silver lugs. It's another one of those things that makes me think Leica is being lazy with their releases. Maybe there's a more practical reason (strength etc) but I just feel that having a camera which will wear down to brass all over the top and bottom plates.... but then to have silver lugs on the sides.. why not make them brass? I don't get it. I guess it matches the silver shutter button.

Well they have a bin full of silver lugs so....it is a bit like the black screen surround on Safari cameras. "Because we couldn't be bothered to order green plastic".

For the thumbie, are you referring to this or another one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295392481406

Yep that's the one; I've had one of the steve250gto thumbies before on a couple of M10 cameras and it they worked well. Was really pleased I didn't need it with the original M11 though.
