p.1 #1 · Leica M to Canon RF adaptor recommendation?

Hi, do you have any recommendation for a particular adapter model to adapt VC Nokton 50/1 and Zeiss 50/2 Planar in M mount to Canon RF mount?
Want to make sure it’s secure and with good alignment.
Not sure how important it is to have a helicoid for infinity alignment. I don’t need perfect alignment as long as focus scale is roughly accurate.
Thank you.

If you're using lenses with a floating element design like the Nokton f/1, the focus scale won't be accurate unless infinity is accurate. I would get one with a macro helicoid so you can set infinity.

Thank you for the helicoid advice for floating element accuracy, haven't thought about that.

7artisan adapter has a close-up function, and it is my recommendation.

Report back on what you decide-

I would be interested in the IQ of the M mount lenses on the RF mount-

Instead of an adaptor with a helicod, I'm thinking about buying Rayqual adapter, which is supposed to be precise, and then manually shim if needed. I feel like using adjustable helicoid will be a nuisance vs permanently shimming an adapter - thoughts?. Do you have any experience with the Rayqual adapters?

Rayqual would be a good choice. The Rayqual ltm to M adapters I have are accurate. Other brands can be accurate, perhaps depending on the tooling tolerances with a fabrication run, and they can be deliberately short. I've found having a variety of adapters from different manufacturers with varying registration accuracy covers some of the variance one can find in lens registration tolerances, both shimmed and not-shimmed. What works well for one lens may not work as well for a different lens.

Many people like the quality of the Rayqual adapters and report they are precise. That said, my Hawk's helicoid adapter for Sony E mount lets me adjust the infinity setting instead of shimming to get infinity focussing exact. I am not sure other helicoid adapters can do the same thing, but I find it a very nice option.

How practical is the helicoid for permanent infinity adjustment? I'm imagining how easy it probably is for the helicoid to move when moving the camera in and out of a bag or grabbing the camera. I wouldn't want to have to frequently verify alignment and readjust it out of fear the helicoid moved.

The NOVOFLEX i use on both RP and R5 , not especially cheap, fits very well and is perfectly adjusted to infinity.

Everything produced by Novoflex is mechanically flawless.
