p.1 #1 · Who has the PIXII Max?

Curious to know how it is performing. Any pluses or negatives? Experience with downloading images. Any issues with electronic shutter only? Did you get the 128GB model?

Sample images? Thanks.

I don't think it's actually shipped yet other than people who upgraded their Pixii/Pixii+ to the Max. I've been holding off on upgrading, especially after getting a M11 but also pretty curious how well it's been performing for people.

I asked because on one site (perhaps here) someone posted images taken with the new camera, but I cannot find that post again.

In the Pixii users Facebook group, there are many posted images taken with the Max given that you have a Facebook account.

Thanks so very much, but I don't FB. Might go with X someday.

Have you read many comments about actual usage?

A link to some raws posted by a user of the group: https://drive.proton.me/urls/51VS17HV50#rsoidDWyuYUs

The actual usage experience seems like very similar to the Pixii+, just without the crop of the APS-C sensor in both good and bad factors. The battery life continues to be terrible, rangefinder calibration still goes off sometimes and need to be manually recalibrated, and sometimes inconsistent metering but it seems to me that most of the feedback about the Pixii+ can likely be applied to the Max with some some improvements after recent software improvements.

That said, I don't think anyone really compared IQ to other bodies, at least none that I saw.

Camera seems pretty goofy IMO. Takes good photos but all of its design flaws are inexcusable

If they could have made the hot shoe hot, better battery life, they would have convinced me. Also can one download directly to your computer? It seems file downloads only through the iPhone which is the same reason I passed on the M11D, etc.

As of Nov. 8, B&H has one or more Pixii Max cameras, 128GB and matte black only, in stock. $4800. 32 GB is not in stock but quoted at $300 less.

The battery life is really atrocious, and is unfortunately not improved. I don't know why it's even that bad, there is no screen to suck power but whenever I go out with a Pixii+ I generally have to take 3-4 batteries and it's the old Sony FW50 stuff as well.

As for downloading directly to your computer, there is a USB port for connecting to your computer. I believe it is possible to get images over wifi as you can expose it as a network drive but I do things mostly through a USB cable, same as I do on M11-D for speed reasons.

I post-processed one of the DNG's that polanri kindly posted (see link above). It is at

My Pixii Max came with the rangerfinder out of vertical alignment, very annoying. Also the Auto white balance is very poor too.

Tying to adjust the rangefinder's vertical is a real pain. Tell me if you've tried to adjust a Pixii Max. The Pixii regular seems easier to adjust.

It looks good, but I'm also seeing a green/cyan shift in the corners... @tr4656 I'm also not on FB to go check for myself: do we know what lens was used for the image?

I downloaded the DNGs and the green/cyan corners are present in the other color images. It's particularly noticeable in the pond scene. Still curious about the lens used and whether it was an older 'pre digital' design. Also doesn't appear to handle flare very well.

You're not missing out on anything by being in that Facebook group. Most of the images shared there don't really do justice to the camera, and if you voice any concerns, the group members snap back aggressively, accusing you of being a Leica fan or not understanding that it is a small company. I've been curious about the new camera, but the few ambassadors in that group have really made me rethink it.

Thank you so much. I had thought since the Max was announced it could be viable replacement for an M11 or if comparing equal sensor sizes an M240 or M10, but I guess that is not the case.

No I haven't, is it a different process? Agree on AWB being spotty, it is true on the regular Pixii as well.

The user stated Leitz Summicron 35mm F1.2 (Canada) so this does make sense

I think in the image quality it is likely decent alternative to a M10, but you will have to accept many quirks that just are not present in a M10 or M11 (freezing aside). I personally consider it a "-D" camera for less serious use, a decent secondary camera in that sense.

I'm still on the M240 and based on this, have no burning desire to get the Pixii as an update/replacement. I'd rather get a used M10. The green/cyan corners with an old 35 Cron really give me pause. While manually setting lens codes on the M with uncoded lenses is a bit of a hassle, at least there is an in-camera solution that corrects edge/corner color shifts and one less thing to fiddle with in post.

One can always manually code an old Cron so that an M reads its 6 bit code and corrects as needed.

By the way; Banding is really Horrible after 2560 ISO in the Pixii Max. Shockingly bad.
