Fred, I'm very much looking forward to your review of the Simera 28mm. I have held off on purchasing it - though I know optically I will probably love the rendering- as my previous experience with the infinity style lock has been frustrating in use when adapted to other bodies where infinity focus is sometimes a tiny bit closer than indicated. I understand Thypoch will eventually change this lens over to using the focusing style tab and I wish they would hurry it and do so. If you have a contact at Thypoch, perhaps you could ask them when this is expected.
Great info on the more conservative and practical use of the DOF scale with digital on the 28mm.

Yes, I have a contact at Thypoch and have already asked this question. I’ll update you as soon as I get an answer.
Got a 2nd copy of the Thypoch 50. This one focuses slightly past infinity. However, when you dial it back and focus at infinity, sharper than the 50 Lux ASPH in the mid range and the edges. These pictures were taken seconds apart. The flare is interesting, after I took the Thypoch shot I took the 50 Lux again, looks identical to the first shot. They definitely handle the sun very differently at the edges
50 Lux ASPH
50 Thypoch
50 Lux ASPH right edge at f/5.6...left looks similar
its impossible to see at web image, but in Lightroom I see a noticeable difference in sharpness to the benefit of the Lux at near to mid distance. At infinity, I think center looks ever so slightly better on the Lux but mid range and edges clearly look better on the Thypoch, even at f/5.6.
I have the black chrome 50 Lux and I love the handling and the feel of the lens, like it much better than the standard 50 Lux ASPH. That being said, if someone were starting a kit for the M system and were asking advice as to 50 Lux or Thypoch, no doubt I would recommend the Thypoch. Price difference isn't justified my opinion
One major difference here is the Thypoch seems to be creating rays from the aperture whereas the Lux does not create these rays. It may well be related to why the Thypoch produces stronger sunstars at this aperture as well.
I see more separation on the 50 Lux, but you should be posting these without telling us which is which—always fun, even at web sizes, to see if we can distinguish
Fred, at some stage maybe we can do a Simera image thread, to serve all focal lengths and mounts?
It seems to work better than the review-cum-explanatory and analytical 'Leica versus xx' comparison page format, that then morphs into an image thread, often unsuccessfully because it tries to do so much. Some just want to see the images.
Such a thread could serve as a rare repository of actual photographic images from these very interesting (if maligned) lenses, which are of course made for all mounts these days.

I'm confident that many Simera 50mm f/1.4 owners will keep sharing their sample photos here. I'll also keep updating the review's first page with links to these sample images.

For me the experimental/testing phase with this lens is complete. It has earned a place in my bag. So, I have started posting my Simera images in the regular Leica image thread. I will note which lens was used for each image as I always do.
