Who makes me my Decafe Americano several times a week. She knows me well, and when I walk in, she always asks, "the usual?" In the big city, it's a bustling but friendly and casual cafe, a respite from the big city.
I get my "fix" across the street at Dunkin D! The ladies are of Spanish heritage and I speak pretty good Spanish. So I can order and converse with them. They see me approach in my van and greet me accordingly, hermano, Always so pleasant to me for an olde fart!
My bonitas!
If ever you have to leave her, La Cabra on 2nd Ave probably has the best beans in this part of the town, but the last pourover I had there was $15. Their $4 brew is excellent, though, and their pastries are illegal in 36 states. (Cardiopulmonary surgeons loiter outside the entrance smoking cigarettes, waiting, like taxi drivers outside the Port Authority.)

I'm a regular at La Cabra, not for their coffee, but their bread and rolls which is terrific. Have you tried Abraco on East 7th Street. Best coffee in the East Village, and delicious pastries that don't require a bank loan. Also, on Cooper Square, Librae is extraordinary for coffee, pastries, and bread. We should meet for a brew.
