p.1 #1 · Return to White Pocket

We were so taken with this remarkable place during our first visit the same week in 2023 that we immediately promised ourselves to return again in 2024.

The bookends, for me, Al, but the middle I love the texture!

Lovely shots! The last shot with the tree is my favorite of yours in this set. I'd love to go back again, the only drag is lacking a 4x4 vehicle and having to rely on a guide that may want to follow a certain route through the place instead of just letting me run wild.

Thanks, Douglas. We call it 'brain rock' but I'm sure there's a better name for it.

Thanks, TR! We used a guide in 2023 but this year chose to visit on our own. My friend drove his 4Runner and I took my Tundra - both are stock vehicles with no lifts or special tires (I wouldn't try it in my Crosstrek or in an all-wheel drive). I think a 4x4 is necessary, mostly for the deep sand rather than rocky conditions (we didn't air down our tires and just powered through the sand).

I like this set a lot, Al! Especially 1 & 3. Great job. Good to hear stock Tundra can make it there, that’s what I have. Deep sand always makes me nervous so I have not been there yet.

Thanks Ross...I sent a PM about our trip in 2023. I've been there twice now so if I return again I hope to camp overnight and take advantage of the sunrise.

White Pocket is in the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument shared by AZ and UT. These were taken in AZ.

Every time I look at that first photo I think "yep, this is the perfect framing for this shot".

The last one is again an excellent composition. Have you also tried it in B&W? Could work with those patterns, I guess...

Al, those are nice. When I went there it was sooooooo windy that I couldn't even take images. I had to find pockets of wind blocks to capture images. Would definitely like to revisit someday.
