I saw a listing I was interested in on classifieds, but it says "Due to the low number of posts on your account" you cannot send a PM. How many posts do I need? Is there a good way to do this without cluttering up the boards?

I think you need 25 posts. The best way to get these posts is to actively join some conversations that interest you. Don’t just post meaningless garbage to increase your post counts.

No "workaround"! 25 is very small if you are a proactive in photography.
If you are a seller/buyer, then it may take you a while.

I have had this happen as well. I ultimately ended up having to go through a guy I bought a used body from elsewhere that has an account on here. The seller refused to work with me and would only work with the other guy. The guy I bought the one body from ended up having to buy the lens from the other person and I had to pay him for it. It was a pain in the rear. It wasn't a pleasant experience on my end. I ended up with the lens but got no positive feedback to help with credibility on future sales or purchases in the future.

Glad to find this post as i couldnt find anything within the buy/sell membership faq as to minimum number of posts. At least I can help others now find this by bumping the thread to help contribute. Mostly I'd like the ability to REPLY to pm's sent to me as a thank you for sending a head's up on something i was looking for, but alas I can't even do that.

I've run into the same problem, fortunately I've managed to find sellers who were more than willing to send a PM to me to complete a sale. Conversely I'm seeing more FS posts that specifically state they won't respond to messages in their listings, which seems counter productive to me since a person with 25 posts isn't that much more reliable than one with 3.

Yea i came across the same instance oh well all i can say is just reply to for sale posts youre interested in and hope they pm you about it then you can pm them back

Same issue here as a new user. I’m not interested (at least yet) in paying $100 or so for a year’s buy/sell membership as it wouldn’t be cost effective for my current needs. I don’t plan to sell a bunch of stuff anytime soon. However, there is an item I would like to purchase right now but cannot PM the seller until I reach the magical 25 forum posts or so. I’ll get there, as I see the value in this community, but I think the site could do a better job of messaging these restrictions and requirements to new members, perhaps in a welcome message once you sign up. This would go a long ways and help new members not have to hunt and fish around to find the information.
FM could perhaps also create a nominal fee under the buy/sell account option for those who don’t plan to sell/post images but do want to jump right into buying something they find and want. Maybe $5-10 to gain PM access earlier yet still weed out the trolls. Just a thought.

Has Fred done away with the 25-post requirement for new members? I keep getting messages from people with zero interactions on this site - mostly people who also don't bother to read the For Sale ads they are replying to - so I assume they are scammers.

Well it does not take any great effort or time to post comments, so post some helpful info, ask some sensible questions, or comment on what you like about other members' images.
Don't know why some people want a free ride on a site they are not willing to financially support.

As Tony states.....If you are an active photographer and a proactive member here, 25 posts should be no problem.
And here you are a year later and still...below 25....
