p.1 #1 · Rumored Sony cameras for late 2024 and 2025 - A6900
Now that Canon has finally released the EOS R5 II, EOS R1, and R6 II and Nikon has put their Z6III out Sony knows what they need to do to leapfrog their competitors. Even the APS-C market they know what’s needed and we are starting to see rumor posts and video on proposed cameras like the A6900, A7V, A1 II, FX-30 II, FX-3 II, and A7SIV.
I’d like to discuss briefly about the A6900 rumored to be a 40+ Mpixel APS-C camera. Do others think Sony will chase Fuji into this space? It intrigues me even though the A7CR also appears to covers this territory. The APS-C could offer a lower price point though. Of course adding or updating E- mount APS-C lenses to handle this resolution is needed too. Do you think we will see such a camera? If they were to create it would anyone be interested? I believe the Viktrox f/1.2 Pro lenses like the 27mm and 75mm would be great for this type of camera.
Share your thoughts. Also if there are other rumored Sony bodies you would like to see feel free to mention them like the A1 II. Take care.

I personally hope Sony gets aggressive here after Canon's latest releases. The market largely perceived Canon's R1 as a miss after people waited many years for this mythical master-of-all cameras. That hype and hope is now behind us, so it would be a good time for Sony to make a strong move to capture market share from Canon. Tease the upcoming A1 Mark II to release later this year or early next year. Make a statement, hold nothing back, and embarrass Canon in the flagship space.
And I thought we were all here because we loved taking photos. If I had known this was some kind of game with our favorite teams, I would have worn my home team jersey.
I just don’t get this view of our “team” needs to hit the competition when it’s down so we can cross the finish line first.

I said nothing about teams nor did I show any bias towards a specific brand. I shoot with all of them and have no allegiance or loyalty. We are talking about business here and discussing multi-national corporations competing for market share. If you were sitting in Sony's board room right now, I'm certain you wouldn't hear, "kill them with kindness" as an option here when their competitor fumbles the ball. It's time to make a move as a business strategy.
Really, we are talking business here. Then we should talk about Sony semiconductor and maybe having them feed Canon sensors as that increases Sony’s revenues and profits. I would think Sony corporation would make much more profits feeding Canon sensors than some minor camera market share Sony might gain by releasing a killer next generation A1.

My thought and wishful thinking for A1II:
1) Improve upon current A1 AF shortcomings to equal or better R1 AF
2) New real pro body style with taller profile as to not let the pinky dangling tirelessly and larger grip
3) Make use of CFexpress Type B (in line with 2)
4) New pro battery with more capacity
5) Either 60 or 80 MP stacked sensor
6) Use AI chip for subject recognition
7) Internal SSD storage (plus huge buffer)
8) Everything else is just icing on the cake for me
9) Keep price the same

I'd rather see them put the stacked 26MP sensor in the next a6xxx camera. I don't find myself wanting for resolution out of the 6700, but a faster e-shutter would be very welcome. So that I would like to see. If we don't get that sensor (or something better) on the FX30 update, I will take my huge head and cry myself to sleep on my giant pillow.

All very good points but I think it will make the A1II quite a bit bigger, maybe even bigger than the Nikon Z8 which is a bit too big for me already. I owned it. These cameras are made for worldwide markets, not just for markets where some folks have big hands. If Sony could pack all (or most) of these features in a body not much bigger than the current A1, I will be all for it. Without an RRS L-bracket, the current A1 is too small for me to hold with long lenses, with an L-bracket, it fits my hand perfectly.

I only have two for A1M2:
1. Precapture
2. Support CFexpress 4.0 Type A card. 1700-1800MB R/W. So that buffer will never get full @30fps with the current A1 compressed RAW.

I kind of think the a1II needs to be a global shutter to move the ball. Incremental improvements on the a1 sensor won’t be much differentiation. A few niceties that came with the successor cameras like the a7rV won’t do it either. It’s got to be 50 mpx global. I think it could come out a year from now and still be fine if they need more time to figure out the tech.

I'm pretty happy with the cameras I have now.
If a new crop sensor camera was made with a 33mp stacked sensor, and most of the goods that are on the newer cameras.
Af, subject recognition, and so on.
Put it in a a9III body, and include a crop mode like the full frame cameras.
A full frame lens, say the 300mm, on this body is like a 450mm, hit crop mode, it's like a 600mm.
I know that's poorly worded, but you get the drift.
Have a large buffer, shoot up to 30 fps, in increments of 5.
Have an adjustable pre capture that is independent of the frames per second.
For example, shoot 30 frames per second, but the pre capture could be 1-30 frames per second. adjustable time also.
Instead of an a6900, let's start a new pro line for crop cameras. Maybe a8000
And lift the restrictions on third party lenses of 15 frame per second.

2-3 are horrible. The cameras have already grown way too much in size and weight. I don't want the old and tired clumsy grandpa bodies. That isn't "pro." It is antiquated design. And I want 2 cfa, not one cfb.

I don't think 2 and 3 are going to happen. They are against Sony's design style/pride.

Keep these ideas coming but let’s focus on what we want in terms of camera features and capabilities.
We don’t need to talk about marketing or business.
When it comes to a A6900 I see some want a stacked sensor APS-C and others want a higher resolution sensor which of course Fuji has both in their product line so they are bots understandable.
Others are asking for a larger full size body but that seems to be contrary to Sony’s approach/ heritage.
I’m enjoying seeing what others are coming up with as well. Let’s keep going. Thank you.

I'd like a 24-33mp stacked sensor (or non-stacked with high readout speed) and the modern AF modes. Basically, an A9/A9ii but with bird eye AF, better back screen and ergonomics. I guess I want an R1 without having to switch systems or pay over $8000 CAD.

These bodies and sensors are in multi-year development paths. Sony won't be "responding" with anything, since anything they release has already been in development for quite some time.
I am hoping that the A1II will have some new improvements we are all not expecting, since they could have easily released one with the minor updates in the A9III that we have already seen in some other bodies. As to what that will be, we'll just have to wait. I have no doubt it will be great though, based on their past track record and all of the nice improvements I've seen in my A9III.

I'd keep my existing 2 a1 bodies. A bigger so-called "pro body style" is without question a no-go for me. My large-hand pinkie is fine.
Maybe Sony can do what Nikon does, Z9 for folks who prefer big/heavy "pro" bodies, Z8 for folks who prefer smaller/lighter bodies with 95% of the features of the big brother.

I'm not sure why you decided to escalate the conversation like that. I made a comment about the A1 Mark II after the OP specifically discussed Canon's recent releases and what Sony's next moves would be in response. You jumped in and started manufacturing this nonsense about teams and distracting from the discussion. Grow up.
Im sorry, but you wrote this “Make a statement, hold nothing back, and embarrass Canon in the flagship space.”
And then you attack Chez for acting like a child. You are the one who acted as if this is some winner take all game, not Chez.
