Hi, I am selling a Leica Q3 and the buyer is asking about warranty registration. When I bought the camera and loaded it on my Leica Fotos app part of this process is registration of the camera. I have noted on the FM forums that people often ask for the purchase receipt and some say to use it for warranty and “re-registration” - so is re-registration really possible? I don’t know the answer to this and want to provide accurate information to the interested buyer. I do have all the receipt info, but the camera is registered already as that is part of onboarding the camera on the Fotos app. Thanks for your help.
Just log in to your Leica account, locate the camera, click on it to open the information for it, then select 'remove product'. That's all there is to it.

Most don't do this when they sell/trade their Leica gear. I tend to buy used and none of my used Leica purchases can be registered since they are still in the name of the original owner.
If you unregister the camera, the new user can register it. Leica has records on when the product was originally entered for warranty and will extend it to the new user that registers it if the warranty has not expired.
I purchased a used 35/1.4 SR where I was the third owner. The original owner never unregistered, the second never tried to register and he did not have the original owner's information. I contacted Leica, they asked for proof that it was in my possession and my proof of purchase (I bought it here on FM and used my PayPal receipt). A day later, Leica had me as the registered owner.

Leica lost the records for my registered gear. I tried to get them to help via email. The person that I dealt with never re-entered the records. Because of that, I was unable to de-register a couple of items when I sold them. Leica knows that the items have been registered, they have just disappeared from my account. So, I cannot even go back in and re-add them.
If this has happened to other people and they have the same experience as I did, they won’t be able to release the registration for someone else.
I find it hard to believe Leica lost your records. In my 16 Years registering gear It has never been changed or adjusted without me doing the adjusting.
