p.1 #1 · Thypoch Infinity lock

Looking to buy my first M kit, and Thypoch came up. Appears to be backed by a Chinese cine lens manufacturer, but heard bad things about the infinity lock. Rumor has it there is retrofit kit to convert to thumb focus. Anyone heard the same?

What bad things about infinity lock have you heard?
It's a great way to assist in mounting/dismounting the lens as it removes strain from the focus mechanism.
It provides a built in focus tab.
It even allows you to lock focus on infinity.

No so much that the infinity lock concept is bad, but apparently the execution on the Thypoch seems to inadvertently send the lens into lock when you focus near it.

It’s not just the infinity ring, its how short the focus throw is-

Why the Thypoch over the Vogitlander 28 1.5?

Here is Fred’s review on it-

It’s a fabulous 28 lens with nothing to complain about IMO-

I press down the infinity lock (to stay unlocked) whenever I focus, at any distance, and never run into any issue.

This lens may not score well in handling but the rendering is something to pay attention to, particularly the 28mm. It so good that whatever handling (and size) issue is well worth the effort, especially for the asking price.

I have to agree with you. I purchased the lens based on images I had seen but was very wary before doing so. I can honestly say it has been my best lens purchase for many years now. Exactly what I always wanted in a 28mm and for a price I was happy to pay. Every lens has its own compromise and with this one it could arguably be the handling but in truth to use I don’t find it an issue but I do use on a Leica sl not a rangefinder. If you care about rendering this 28mm lens is simply perfect for the size. It truly is something else. Flat field, minimal optical vignetting, fantastic colours, plenty contrasty and sharp enough wide open and pin sharp stopped down. In truth I’m shocked more people are not raving about it. I also looked at the Nokton but for me the Thypoch leaves the CV and every other 28mm I’ve tried for portraits and my everyday shooting lacking. love CV and Leica lenses but this one is my favourite and one I had been waiting for many years to find.

I have to be honest and say though I cut off the infinity lock and it’s basically a poor man’s focus tab now.

That's pretty much how all infinity locks work. With just a little bit of use, you get used to maintaining pressure on the release button when you are in that lock zone, so it does not lock.
This is easy to do if you use the infinity lock as a focus tab.
